[Review] LSM4212 Pharmacogenetics and Drug Responses

Ok, second review for the day!

This module isn't really about pharmacogenetics although the name says so. It is more on the variability in drug response that exists among populations. Basically you learn about measurement of drug response, phamacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, race/ethnicity issues, CYP450 enzymes etc. Just would like to let you know that this module IS NOT A MEMORY-BASED module. Of course, being in Life Science means that you have to memorise some stuff and you have to remember the basic theories before you can apply them. This module is more on applying what you have learnt. There is only one prof for the whole sem and he's quite good at explaining himself. There are no webcasts so it's better to go for all lectures and group presentations.

Assessment wise, there is a CA comprising of 20 T/F questions with each question have 5 statements, that means 100 questions. There is negative marking as well... so, it depends on how much you know your stuff. You can try gambling, but the negative marking is carried over. It is 30% of your grade.

We also have to do presentations in groups of 10, which is assigned by the prof. It is 10% of the final grade and not everyone has to present..so you can always sabo someone if you want to.

The final exam is made up of 20 T/F questions (again like the CA) and 3 short answer questions. The prof uploads the past year papers so you should go take a look and try out the questions. My advice if you're thinking of taking this mod: it's not bad and it is probably one of the lightest module I have taken.
