Just had my exam today. Gosh. This module, if you're not planning to major in cancer or tumour, I would advise against taking it. Or maybe it's just my brain which is not functioning very well since it's almost the end of university life for me.
Ok, first up. 4 lecturers: prakash hande, shazib pervaiz, reshma taneja and ong siew hwa. would say that they are all really good lecturers. explain concepts and details in a way that you can understand. their notes are also very good, maybe except for prof ong's. i feel like i had to go online often to search for a lot of things which i do not understand.
the topics are somewhat almost overlapping against each other throughout the notes. it was about tumour formation, telomerase, p53, apoptosis, metastasis and so on. it's quite basic stuff we have learnt before but this module goes more in depth. i would say they are interesting and i would have enjoyed myself even more if there were no exams!
the assessment this year was a bit different. 45% on CAs and 55% on finals. the ca was broken into two parts: 1 was take home assignment from shazib (20%) and the other one was a 2-hour ca from ong siew hwa (25%). we had to sit in the lecture theatre and watch a 1-hour video on metastasis before taking the test. it was open book, so that helped a lot. the finals was 2 hours and had 4 questions in total. the questions were all pretty straight-forward. MEMORISE and you shall be fine. but as i said, my brain is slowly malfunctioning. now i'm hoping for a B+ and i'm guessing the most i can probably get is A-. hope it doesn't get worse than that and affect my CAP.
